Using cPanel to Restore a Web Site

A website can be lost for any number of reasons. Perhaps it was hacked into, or maybe a Web hosting provider had hard drive failure and lost all of your files. Because of this, it is extremely important that you create backups of your website on your own. You never know when you might actually need it. cPanel is extremely common with many web hosting providers. If you are someone who is using this type of hosting service, then you are fortunate as it is quite easy to restore your website within this platform.blue host

First off, there are two backup options. There is the home directory backup option and a full backup option that can be downloaded from within the control panel. Make sure you use the ‘home directory backup’ option not the ‘full backup’ option that you can download from your cPanel control panel. The ‘full backup’ option is generally used by your web hosting provider to recover lost accounts and is not necessarily beneficial for restoring files yourself. Furthermore, a full backup can only take place through your web host. Therefore, the home directory backup option is the one that is most recommended. This option will back up your e-mail, files, statistics, and every thing you need to restore your website by yourself. Moreover, make sure to backup the databases separately as you are backing up your website. Databases that run your website are just as important as the actual website files.

Start the process by going to your website’s cPanel and enter your user information. Next, find the backup icon with the control panel. At this point you will notice the restore fields for the home directory and databases of your site. You will then be able to browse your own hard drive to find the files that you have backed up. Select and then upload the back up files. Finally, cPanel will take over the situation and begin the back up process of restoring files as well as databases.

However, if it turns out that the loss of your site is the responsibility of your hosting provider, you may wish to migrate your site to a more reliable host and server. If this is the case, you can simply change your host to another provider who offers cPanel hosting as well. It will then be possible to create a backup of your web site files into the new cPanel hosting account in the same manner. Your databases can be restored in the same way.
